Decisions, Decisions

Ah, this blog business is an interesting one.  No one's life is always peachy, and I sort of feel a responsibility to be real when real is knocking at my door, but I am personally worn out of being weepy and I imagine others are pretty worn out with me too.  I've had some things to say of late, but seriously thought that maybe I was just too sad to blog anymore.  I really started this to keep my kin up on Kaye and my chicken adventures.  Well, Kaye is gone and I don't know how much longer I'll have anything to say about the chickens either.  Then my sister tells me of an old friend who enjoys keeping up with our family through the blog, so here I am with one more sad story. My sweet Arwen was terrified of storms.  We had a little pop-up storm on Thursday just a very few minutes before Handy Man pulled in the drive. My panic stricken pooch tried to jump the fence, but didn't make it and consequently, didn't make it.  Ahh, law, more tears.
With no protector for the chickens, who knows?

On the other hand, no one could be uncheered by this little dumpling.  Looks like he's going love Legos like his Papa.

School is well underway and we've been as busy as usual.  We wandered into the dry creek bed for a bit of sketching and to see if life could be found in a dry creek.
After experimenting with bubbles of plain soap and bubbles with an addition of corn syrup, we met our reading buddies and had a big, bubble blowing time.
With Captain off across the deep blue sea, and my students having already met him and tried on his 70 pounds of gear and writing to his team, I decided to just do a geography/cultural project titled "Indiana to Afghanistan" with my kidlets.  The girls are wearing head wraps and you can see them here in our faux marketplace.  A fun coincidence, I got a postcard from Captain this week showing women in full coverage with just a net like piece to see through.  My girls are always happy to take theirs off at the end of our lesson.

  1. I'm so sorry about your sad news. I see you are still planning exciting lessons that will influence your students for the rest of their lives. Your school looks very nice. I would be sad if you stopped blogging.

  2. Oh I am so sorry for your loss. Animals really are almost as good as family and it sure hurts as much when they go. It is going to kill me when it happens to my cats -- and I know someday it will.

I really hope you find the strength to continue blogging! I would really miss reading about your adventures in the classroom and all the wonderful pictures -- especially of those beautiful red curls! Life at your house is so different from life at our house.

I think it is wonderful what you are doing in the classroom. I think it is very good for all of us to try and walk a mile in someone else's shoes. You're a great teacher. Amara doesn't go back until the 22nd and the construction crew is on overtime! They don't quite have those new buildings ready yet! Keep your fingers crossed she gets another great teacher.

    1. Lands, I do hope she gets a great teacher. It is such a long and miserable year when they don't.

  4. It can be hard to blog when you are feeling sad. I've experienced that this past year as well, following the death of my dad. But I do hope you continue. Still, blogging has to take a back seat to the marvelous things you do in the classroom and with those grands. Priorities, you know. So I hope you continue but will understand if you don't.

  5. I am so sorry for your losses! I do hope you continue blogging though. Maybe just try hanging in there for a little longer? Sad is part of living as well as happy! You have so many great things to share and I just started reading your blogs!

  6. Thanks girls. You know the drill I'm sure. You don't think about your pooch till your in the dog food aisle at the grocery, or when your have way to the chicken yard to let her out and know she isn't there, or maybe every time you have a leftover scrap and she isn't there appreciating it.
    Ahhhhh, life.
